canyon exploring with Michele Angileri

Canale Maralonga

Papasidero is a nice medieval village perched on a rocky hill. The two deep canyons of river Lao and Canale San Nocaio defend it on two sides. The countryside stores important witnesses of the past like the prehistoric site of Grotta del Romito, and it hosts lush woods, springs, streams and rocks belonging to Pollino National Park. Papasidero is also the base for rafting companies operating on river Lao.

Near Papasidero there are many canyoning trails. The nearest is the narrows of Canale Maralonga, extraordinarily tight. A short canyon featuring a continuous sequence of cascades emebedded in narrows.

I remember ...

I had lost confidence with solitary exploring, so I was a bit anxious ... I brought my camera but had no enough serenity to use it.
I needed to go there again just to make these photos!

Photographs in this website show ultralight ropes (6 mm ropes made of high tenacity fibers). Read multimedia book Ultralight ropes canyoning technique to learn how to use them.
