canyon exploring with Michele Angileri

Fosso Pezzomara

Sometimes in autumn, winter or spring, rain falls down for days. The hills of Balzi di Grotti become completely wet, and water starts flowing through all the streams and canyons of Balzi area.

That's the right moment for going through canyon of Pezzomara, enjoing its water games and the rumble of waterfalls.
Canyon features 2 distinct narrow parts. You may descend only one if you prefer a lighter and shorter trail.

Beyond the wettest weeks Pezzomara gets dry, and water in its numerous pools becomes putrid.

I remember ...

We explored only the lower narrows of Pezzomara, the ones just before stream gets to the bottom of Salto valley. But Pezzomara has another narrow canyon upstream.
Upper narrows were found and explored by Giorgio Ecker and Valerio Carlin, members of Gruppo Torrentistico "Albatros". They went to descend lower narrows (the only known at that time), but they didn't find the right path to starting point. So they went up more than it was needed, and they arrived at the beginning of an unexplored canyon.

Sometimes canyons are found by chance.
