Fosso Ravi
The long and charming canyon of Fosso Ravi develops in the bottom of a splendid valley hidden between the Sabini Mounts.
In white rock, mantled by vegetation, the water carved deep gorges, potholes and little cascades that in the rainiest periods are filled with
blue-green water. In the rest of the year the beauty of polished rock replaces the beauty of water. Descent requires countless downclimbings
and many rappels.

Though it's not a much frequented canyoning trail, Fosso Ravi can be defined a "classic" among canyon trails in Lazio. In fact it is one of the
very first canyon explored here.
I don't remember the first time I went through it. Maybe I was alone, maybe not ... Surely that was a beautiful canyoning day, because I
went there again in the next years, 2 times, maybe 3. But each time I found it dry.
So I wanted to go through it together with flowing water. Taken by many things and many gorges, many years had to pass before I decided to
take advantage of the right water conditions, and in truth I was going to lose those conditions, because the water that I found was very poor
(you see it in the photos), at least 5 times less than the level I had seen one week before, during a quick inspection.
However, it was still enough to let me enjoy the Fosso Ravi in water conditions :-)
Photographs in this website show ultralight ropes (6 mm ropes made of high tenacity fibers). Read multimedia book Ultralight ropes canyoning technique to learn how to use them.
