canyon exploring with Michele Angileri

Gola del Savuto

In the point where it leaves the Sila plateau to begin its descent towards the Tyrrhenian Sea, the river Savuto (which here is still a stream) runs a nice canyon dug in the multi-colored gneiss, through majestic sceneries and no major technical difficulties.

I remember ...

We began the descent on a beautiful day of August, but half an hour later we heard a thunder. It was the first of a continuous series that accompanied us all the way down, while the sky was getting black. An awful storm was unleashing not far from there, and at some point we began to fear that the storm was going to pass on the Savuto.
It did pass in the evening, when we were already at home.
