Fosso di Sustrico
An easy, pleasant canyon featuring numerous short narrows and little dryfalls, near Spoleto.
I remember ...Before exploring the Fosso I made a careful reconnaissance. The forest was beautiful (where not cut by loggers),
and there were tracks and trails that allowed me to observe the canyon from close. A couple of them had to be important, at one time,
they must have been the ancient routes of communication between the valley and mountain pastures: you could tell from the knowledge of territory
that those paths express (they were "intelligent" paths). Then came cars and roads, the mountains were abandoned and the ancient paths were ignored,
then forgotten, mutilated, canceled. You may see no traces of them in the places where they started, because those places were upset by new houses
and roads.
What a pity!
Photographs in this website show ultralight ropes (6 mm ropes made of high tenacity fibers). Read multimedia book Ultralight ropes canyoning technique to learn how to use them.
