canyon exploring with Michele Angileri

Cascata di Valle Scura

The beautiful Valle Scura is divided in two parts by a transversal cliff. The ancient path that goes up the valley from Sigillo village to the high altitude meadows of Terminillo overcomes the cliff in the only, unsuspected weak point, made passable with some dry stone walls. The passage is awkward and tiring, and environment is mighty: so that part of the path and the place where it develops are known as Malopasso (bad pass).

The creek needs no path to overcome the cliff: it simply jumps down a 90 meters fall, made by 2 steps divided by a wide terrace.

I remember ...

I saw the fall for the first time in 1993, from afar, while I was doing a reconnaissance to prepare the exploration of Fosso dei Cavalli. At that time, however, I was not interested in rappelling single cascades, so I didn't plan to do it.
It was about ten years after that I began to consider the idea to go down the Malopasso waterfall, but yet I did not do it because I had more interesting things to do ...

At last I did it, however ... and I found the bolts of a former descent! Moreover I went there in the wrong season, and I found little water.
Maybe, who knows, I will go there again at some time or other, but surely it will be in spring!
