canyon exploring with Michele Angileri

Fosso Pisciarelli

The mountains around Percile are wild and solitary ... or rather, they have become so since the abandonment of agro-pastoral activities allowed vegetation to regain possession of slopes and paths. Once here it was all cultivated, and there were paths leading everywhere ... today only a few dirt roads allow you to move easily on these hills: the rest can be reached (provided you can make it) by going through Mediterranean bush, dense woods or real jungles.
The streams that run through these places are today inaccessible as if they were canyons bordered by impassable woods instead of rocky walls. Going along them means going through splendid wilderness environments but also discovering short gorges, small waterfalls, pools, ... the ingredients of a nice canyoning day!

I remember ...

Let's face it frankly, canyoning excursions are done in company for the pleasure of sharing a beautiful environment and a beautiful day, yes, to lend mutual aid in case of need, yes, ... but also for a less poetic reason: having a shuttle! Going alone implies having a single means of transport that can take us near the entrance of the gorge, or at the exit but not in both places!
I very often go canyoning alone, so I have to do on foot the path that connects the two access points to the canyon. Sometimes it's a simple though long walk on roads and tracks, sometimes it's a steep, unknown way through dense woods and rocky hills, more long and tiring than the canyon itself.
