La Vaccareccia
La Vaccareccia is the canyon of one of the main tributaries of river Salto. It developes amidst the hills of
Concerviano. This area has turned wild again after being abandoned by farmers and shepherds, who preferred a work in
town.
La Vaccareccia is among the few torrents in Lazio having permanent flow. Even in summer we find here the elements
of a nice and easy canyoning trail: nice clean pools, little cascades covered with travertine, narrows, lush
vegetation, solitude and isolation. But if we are looking for a little more thrill we have to come here in wet
seasons, when stream has more and longer pools, and sparkling water falls rumbling down the cascades.

Canyoning is a kind of technical hiking. It is not the olimpic sport of plunge moved to canyon environment, no ...
And if I would like to stay hanged on a rock wall 100 meters high I would be a climber, not a canyoneer!
I go canyoning because I like canyon environment: the walls around you, pools enclodes in narrows,
rounded boulders to be downclimbed, lush vegetation in the shade ... I wanna hike through a stream enclosed in
narrows, that's the main element of canyoning!
But what is canyon exploring? It can be many different things, depending on the place.
In Vaccareccia canyon exploring showed us as snaking into dense spiny bush trying to reach the canyon, learning how
to bypass it.
Finally we were into canyon, and we could say: yes, it had been worth!
Photographs in this website show ultralight ropes (6 mm ropes made of high tenacity fibers). Read multimedia book Ultralight ropes canyoning technique to learn how to use them.
